I love Margot Wanger’s earrings she wore for her wedding to Max Wanger (one of my favorite photographers). Does anyone know of a source for good turquoise, either vintage or new? I’m leaning towards a few from Amrita Singh (thanks Allie!) but also want to look at some that appear a bit older/antique-y.

Last Thursday, we lost a beautiful person in the mother of one of my best friends, Liz. Janet was a star, from her Broadway musical days to what she did for her family and her church. I get chills every time I hear the story of her parents meeting – she, singing the national anthem on the sidelines of Tulane while he, a former football star, coached. They met on the sidelines and were engaged 2 weeks later despite both having boyfriends/girlfriends at the time, and were married 35 years – they always were an example of love, commitment and celebrated all joys of life and family.

The service was one of the most personal and special I’d been to. Below is a poem Liz’s father chose – so appropriate for the artist and appreciator of life that she was.

When Earth’s Last Picture is Painted

When Earth’s last picture is painted and the tubes are twisted and dried,
When the oldest colours have faded, and the youngest critic has died,
We shall rest, and, faith, we shall need it — lie down for an aeon or two,
Till the Master of All Good Workmen shall put us to work anew!

And those that were good shall be happy: they shall sit in a golden chair;
They shall splash at a ten-league canvas with brushes of comets’ hair;
They shall find real saints to draw from — Magdalene, Peter, and Paul;
They shall work for an age at a sitting and never be tired at all!

And only the Master shall praise us, and only the Master shall blame;

On top of holiday shenanigans and lots of good times with family and friends, my trip to NC was for checking things off the wedding to-do list. My best crafting partner in crime (my mama) and I had a great time treasure hunting and pulling some of the details together.

Did you know that you can easily make cake stands by glueing candlesticks to old plates? I even used small bowls for the base of some to play with the look/height. And with that tip from a friend, ladies and gentlemen, I was officially taken over the edge and into the world of Pinterest. It’s a world I’ve been avoiding for a while for fear of falling into a big black hole of crafty bloggy inspiration, so let’s hope I emerge before it’s time to go back to work and be a productive, practical citizen.

I love this quote from Joanna Goddard (of Cup of Jo) on Refinery 29 - though a ways off for us, the question of whether or not to start a family in the city is always on our minds, and this is a reassuring and cute way to look at it.

“When I was pregnant, I was worried about raising a baby in Manhattan, but, so far, I’ve been surprised by how amazing it has been! The city suddenly feels like Sesame Street — cab drivers smile at our son [Toby, above, with Joanna], doormen tip their hats, cheesemongers give him Parmesan crisps! Funnily enough, having a baby has made New York feel like much more of a small town. Our apartment is pretty tiny, so we sometimes get stir crazy, but we’ve made it our mission to get outside everyday, no matter how cold it is. It’s our winter challenge!”
